Hayes Lewis Elementary has been notified that our school is in the Top Ten Schools in the Nation in our Accelerated Reader program!  We are NUMBER 5!!!!  We are so proud of our students, they work very hard and it shows. Each student is required to read two books, on their reading level,  each week, take a test on it and make at least 85%.  We will be having a reading celebration for our students to reward them for their hard work.  Keep up the good work.

Mark Shriver, Vice President and Managing Director, US Programs for Save the Children recently informed Hayes Lewis Elementary that the AR program is a Platinum Star Award winner.  This is their highest level achievement award.

KCCT--Kentucky Core Content TestUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
We have lost more school days due to weather and flu than any year in my recent memory.  It is very important that students are in attendance every day.  Students do better at school if they have had adequate rest and a nutritious breakfast.  Testing this year is scheduled for April 19-30 for the Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT) and May 3-7 for the norm-referenced test (NRT).
New attendance daysUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

Presently making up all school days missed the last day for students would be June 10, 2010.

The 100th day of school for accountability would be March 1st .

March 16th would end the six-week grading period.

PTO T-Shirt saleUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Our PTO has been working very hard this year to support our teachers and staff in our effort to educate our students.  Currently, the PTO is conducting a fundraiser selling T-shirts with the "Got Electricity?  Thank a Coal Miner" logo.  The response to these shirts has been overwhelming to say the least.  Hayes Lewis School also celebrated "Coal Days" which featured coal displays of our mining heritage as well as guest speakers.  We are proud of our heritage, and we are also proud of our future--the students.

Prices for the shirts are as follows:
youth S to adult XL............$10.00
adult 2X...........................$11.25
adult 3X...........................$11.50
